Wines’ Life Cycle
The jury is still out as to weather wine is a living thing or not. However, it does have a life cycle. Although not all wine is meant for aging or will get better with age, all wine goes through the same stages. It starts out young where it can be consumed or not, depending what it is. Then it reaches its peek (best or optimal drinking time). Finally it starts to tire, deteriorate and fall apart, eventually dying and becoming undrinkable. Ideally, one should consume it at its peek or best drinking time to get the most out of it. Knowing what varietals or wine styles to drink when and approximately how long they can be kept is the key. Here some wine education plays a huge part. If unsure, simply ask for help where you purchase your wine.
